Ohio Life Sciences Association Partners with OMA, JobsOhio, and PhRMA to Launch New Biomanufacturing Layer of Ohio Manufacturing Competency Model
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio’s biomanufacturing sector is growing rapidly, and ensuring a skilled operator and technician workforce to meet that demand is a shared priority across industry, education, and economic development.
To support this need, the Ohio Life Sciences Association is proud to partner with the Ohio Manufacturers’ Association (OMA), JobsOhio, and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) in the launch of a new Biomanufacturing Industry Layer of the Ohio Manufacturing Competency Model.
Developed by employers, the Ohio Manufacturing Competency Model defines the core and industry-specific skills required for manufacturing careers across the state. The new biomanufacturing layer will establish industry-validated, standardized skill expectations, helping to better align education and training programs with real-world workforce needs. This effort supports Ohio’s continued leadership and growth in biologics, cell and gene therapy, advanced therapeutics, and other high-impact manufacturing areas.
Industry Participation Requested
To ensure the competency model accurately reflects the talent needs of Ohio’s biomanufacturing employers, the coalition is seeking industry leaders and technical experts to serve on the biomanufacturing development core team, including:
- Hiring managers
- Operations leaders
- Technical and process experts
- Workforce and training leaders
Selected participants will be invited to attend a two-hour virtual kickoff meeting at 11:00 a.m. on January 21, 2026.
Ohio Life Sciences Association strongly encourages its members to participate and nominate representatives to help shape this important statewide workforce resource.
