Central Ohio BioPathways Workshop: Two Days of Discovery for Our Educators

Last week, Central Ohio educators spent two days behind the scenes in the life sciences, running hands-on biotech labs at Battelle and touring Andelyn Biosciences’ gene therapy facility. See how BioPathways is connecting teachers with the industry hiring Ohio’s next workforce.

Last week, BioPathways brought together engaged educators from across Central Ohio for two full days of hands-on biotech learning, industry connection, and behind-the-scenes access to one of Ohio’s leading life sciences companies. Here’s a look back at an incredible workshop, and a huge thank you to everyone who made it possible.

Thank You to Our Sponsors & Hosts

This workshop was made so much better because of the generosity of our partners.

Battelle hosted our educators for the entirety of day one and welcomed everyone back for the reception on day two. Truly, your partnership is appreciated — from the space to the spirit of collaboration you bring to this work every year.

Andelyn Biosciences hosted our educators on day two for an exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour of their facility. Thank you for opening your doors and giving teachers a firsthand look at gene therapy innovation happening right here in Ohio.

Lehman Daman, an OLS member, sponsored day one’s lunch, giving our educators a chance to connect directly with industry professionals over a meal.

Fisher Scientific ( Nick Gilmore) donated the PPE supplies that our educators used during one of the lessons.

Lunch with Industry Leaders

Day one’s lunch wasn’t just a break; it was a working session. Brian Reed and Andrea Meador from Lehman Daman spoke with educators about the projects they’re working on in the life sciences industry and shared their perspective on what they look for when hiring. That kind of firsthand insight is invaluable for teachers to bring back to their classrooms and pass along to students thinking about their next steps.

We were also glad to have Dr. Michael Triplett, Armatus Bio, join the group for lunch to share his own career journey in the field, a great reminder of just how many paths can lead into life sciences.

Two Days, Endless Discovery

Day One took place at Battelle, where educators ran hands-on biotech investigations alongside bioscience experts, including:

  • Protein expression and purification
  • Pathogen transmission and immune response
  • BACE simulation
  • Biotech lab skill stations

Day Two kicked off with a behind-the-scenes tour of Andelyn Biosciences, one of the world’s leading gene therapy organizations, proudly headquartered right here in Ohio. The day wrapped up with a reception back at Battelle, giving educators one more chance to connect with the people and partners who made the week possible.

By the end of the two days, every educator left with hands-on supplies, ready-to-use curriculum, and 1.6 CEUs — fully equipped to bring biotech to life in their classrooms this fall.

Building Ohio’s Talent Pipeline, One Workshop at a Time

Workshops like this one are at the heart of what BioPathways is all about: connecting educators directly with Ohio’s life sciences industry so the next generation of talent has a clear, informed path forward. Thank you again to Battelle, Lehman Daman, and every speaker and partner who showed up to invest in our educators and, ultimately, in Ohio’s future workforce.
