How Butler Tech cGMP Bootcamp is Helping Build Ohio’s Life Sciences Workforce
Ohio’s life sciences sector is growing, and so is the demand for skilled biomanufacturing talent. That’s why Ohio Life Sciences has made workforce development one of its major strategic initiatives, launching programs and partnerships that connect Ohioans to high-quality career pathways in biotechnology, biopharma, and biomanufacturing.
One of the most exciting examples of this work? The cGMP Fundamentals Bootcamp at Butler Tech, a program transformed by collaboration among Ohio Life Sciences, JobsOhio, Resilience, REDI Cincinnati, and Precision Environments.
And for bootcamp graduate John Ferrando, this initiative became the start of an entirely new future.
A Program That Opens Doors…Fast
When John read about the cGMP program in the Journal-News, he knew he had to act. He was looking for a new opportunity to grow and do something with purpose.
With no prior biomanufacturing experience, he entered the program unsure of what to expect. What he found was an on-ramp into one of the region’s most promising industries.
Just weeks after completing the bootcamp, John earned an interview—and then a job offer—from Resilience, a cutting-edge biomanufacturing company with operations in West Chester Township, Ohio. Today, he’s officially launching his biomanufacturing career.
Training That Prepares Students for Day One
John credits the program’s hands-on cleanroom training with helping him stand out. Under instructor Matthew Kreate, students learned:
- Gowning procedures
- Cleanroom behavior and workflows
- Documentation and SOPs
- Regulated pharmaceutical and cosmetic manufacturing processes
This training is exactly what employers need, and exactly what Ohio’s life sciences sector is demanding.
