Poet Biorefining produces cellulosic ethanol using various feedstocks that include corncobs, leaves, husk, and some stalk that passes through the combine during harvest. The Poet process uses about 25% of the material, leaving 75% on the ground for erosion control, nutrient replacement and other farm management practices. The Fostoria, Ohio plant went into operation on September 30, 2008 and will consume 22 million bushels of corn to produce 68 million gallons of ethanol annually.
