Ohio University's Edison Biotechnology Institute (EBI) combines nationally-recognized expertise in molecular, cellular and developmental biology into an integrated system of basic and applied research for human medical, drug discovery and agricultural applications. EBI offers companies the opportunity to obtain exclusive licenses for basic technologies. Through sponsored research agreements EBI provides access to the highly-skilled staff and advanced facilities of the new, state-of-the-art Konneker Research Laboratory, which was designed to meet the special needs of the biotechnology industry. EBI seeks to understand the molecular/genetic basis of diseases that are major worldwide challenges. EBI investigators pursue internationally recognized research programs in: growth disorders, diabetes, obesity and related cardiovascular complications, autoimmune / inflammatory diseases, aging, infectious diseases, and cancer. Through increased understanding of these diseases, EBI hopes to develop advanced diagnostics and therapeutics. Faculty at the research center come from three academic colleges - Osteopathic Medicine, Arts & Sciences and Engineering. EBI's unique environment allows investigators to establish a wide network of collaborators both within and outside the university community.
