The Glenn Research Center (a division of NASA) is a high technology scientific discovery facility. The world-class research, technology, and capability development efforts are keys to advancing exploration of the solar system and beyond while maintaining global leadership in aeronautics. The center has also developed cutting-edge technology for the healthcare industry. Dynamic light scattering technology developed at the GRC to protect the health of astronauts, can be used in simple noninvasive eye examinations to diagnose health problems long before clinical symptoms appear by measuring subtle changes in the tissues, fluids, and blood vessels of the eyes. This technology could lead to further applications in disease detection, including early detection of Alzheimer's disease, as well as methods of measuring blood glucose and cholesterol levels without blood samples.
