The Mayfield Clinic & Spine Institute is one of the world's largest neurosurgical groups, focused on clinical care, education, and research of the spine and brain. Mayfield physicians have been among the leaders in the development of neurosurgery worldwide. Many physicians have held leadership positions in the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, Ohio State Neurosurgical Association, The National Think First Foundation, and many more. Mayfield physicians have pioneered advancements in neurosurgical instrumentation and technology, including the Mayfield headrest, the Budde-Halo Retractor, the Mayfield Clip, and the Mayfield ACCISS image-guided surgery system. Approximately 20,000 patients visit Mayfield facilities each year for neurosurgical care. As part of its role in the training of young physicians, Mayfield works hand-in-hand with the University of Cincinnati Department of Neurosurgery to oversee faculty members, resident training and clinical fellowships.
