EWI (Edison Welding Institute) is the largest nonprofit, industrially driven engineering organization in North America dedicated to advancing and applying materials joining technology to benefit industry. EWI's 160 staff members provide materials joining assistance, contract research, consulting services and training to member companies, including medical device companies, representing more than 3,300 plant locations nationwide. EWI is currently working with universities and biomedical test labs to identify and qualify bio-compatible brazing and soldering alloys, which may be used in medical products. EWI also works with firms in the aerospace, automotive, government, energy and chemical, heavy manufacturing, and electronics industries. Comprehensive consulting services include applied research & development, product design & process development, scale-up & pre-production, on-site assessment & Optimization, health & safety, the EWI OnsiteEngineer program, supply chain services, and total joining quality assessment.
