The Cleveland FES Center is lead by Dr. Hunter Peckham, and is dedicated to the advancement of neuro-augmentation and neuro-prosthetic technologies. The Cleveland FES Center is a consortium of three nationally recognized institutions: Cleveland VA Medical Center (CVMAC), the private educational institution of Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), and the public hospital system of MetroHealth Medical Center (MHMC). FES stands for Functional Electrical Stimulation, which involves the application of electrical currents to either generate or suppress activity in the nervous system. Applications include physical therapy, recovery, and other treatments for patients suffering from loss of motor control.
