Nordonia High School is located in Macedonia, Ohio. With a strong student interest in science, we have developed a biotechnology course where students apply knowledge and skills learned in biology, physics, and chemistry to making products and solving problems using living organisms and their parts. Students practice techniques such as maintaining aseptic lab bench, following standard laboratory procedures and recording all results in a lab notebook, micropipetting, making solutions, making gels, restriction enzyme digest, gel electrophroesis, PCR, ELISA, and cell culturing using a biological cabinet. Students apply these skills to various simulated research and design projects while considering regulations and ethical implications of biotechnology.
