The Wright Center of Innovation in Biomedical Imaging is both a comprehensive imaging research center and a fully functional outpatient imaging facility (The Biomedical, Structural, Functional & Molecular Imaging Enterprise / Partners include: Ohio State University Medical Center, Case Western Reserve University, Philips Medical Systems of Highland Heights, Ohio Supercomputer Center). Regarding research, the center is developing an ultra-high-field 7 Tesla MRI scanner, which will reduce the need for exploratory surgery and permit doctors to closely monitor the effects of medications. It will enable functional imaging research in cancer, neuroscience, and cardiovascular care. Other areas of focus include the development of a new and more powerful PET scanner, exploration into mobile imaging facilities and remote access systems, organization of a powerful imaging and bioinformatics infrastructure that will integrate the state's scientific community into a virtual think tank for research and development. The center also provides funding for innovative imaging concepts.
